Canoe Kayak Trader

(CKT) started in 2001 as part of the rejuvenation of the old Victorian Boat House in Jephson Gardens Park. Funded by Heritage Lottery, the boat house is now a thriving activity centre known as The Leam Boat Centre. offering public boat hire to satisfy all ages!. Canoe Kayak Trader is the watersport shop & provider of canoe & kayak training courses for children & adults. CKT is approved by the BCU (British Canoe Union) & licensed by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.

The centre was founded by Matthew Bishop, ex teacher & local youth worker with a passion for whitewater kayaking. As the demand for canoe & kayak training quickly grew so did the need for equipment & training & Canoe Kayak Trader was born.

The aim of the company? To help people enjoy the great outdoors, locally & across the UK, providing access to canoe & kayak training & offering expert advice on what equipment is best suited to your needs! We cover everything, whitewater, sea kayaking & recreational paddling with staff who have proven expertise in their field.

One of our great advantages is that we are a river side centre which feeds into a small boating lake. This offers a very safe area for the young or nervous paddler & also means you can pick a boat of the shop rack &, in a few steps, be paddling up the river. As one senior BCU instructor said "There is nowhere easier to try out a such an extensive range of canoes & kayaks."

Leisure Boat UK

We are leading suppliers of smaller watersports craft including tenders, sailing dinghies, inflatables, fishing craft, rowing boats, canoes & kayaks, even pedalos! We sell to the UK hire & leisure park trade and to private customers. We handle the UK distribution of Tabrum row & motor boats and the Canadian Pelican Pedalos. We also service boats for the hire & leisure trade so have indepth knowledge of how well different craft perform in different scenarios.

Most craft are available to try out before purchase at centres around the UK and demo stock is made available to trade customers.
