Working towards the new BCU 2* award for those that are interested.
This is the obvious choice if you have completed an introductory course or already have approximately 1* skills in either kayak or canoe. We improve on your skills and introduce new ones, working towards the new BCU 2* award for those that are interested.
Canoe and kayak improver courses are separate, so if you are interested in only one of them you can stick to that, but if you would like to go forward to BCU 2* assessment then you will need the appropriate skills in both craft.
If you are buying this activity as a gift, and would like an open-dated voucher, just chose the voucher option under dates, and we will post you one. Once your recipiant has decided on a date, they just need to give us a call to book in.

This course is for you if: You have some basic canoe or kayak skills (approx BCU 1 star standard) and would like to progress, or if you would like to work towards the canoe part of your 2 star
In warm weather: Basic sports wear e.g. shorts and t shirt. It’s sensible to bring a spare fleece top just in case it gets colder than expected. On hot days don’t forget sun screen, and a sun hat is a good idea.
If it’s cold/rainy: A fleece top and tracksuit type trousers (jeans and hoodies are not ideal, as they hold a lot of water). A warm hat is a good idea for cold days. Waterproofs are useful if you have them.
You must wear footwear - old trainers, sandals, or wet shoes. They must stay on in the water, so flip-flops and crocs are unsuitable.
A towel and a complete change of clothing (and shoes) are required for everyone!
Wetsuits are not essential, but if you have one you can always bring it.
We provide buoyancy aids (compulsory), waterproof tops if needed, and all necessary paddling equipment. Showers and changing facilities are available and there is a take away snack bar.
Extras:
On the children’s courses we often stop for a short break mid-session, so it is worth bringing a snack and/or drink.
If your course lasts all day, then it is sensible to bring an extra change of clothes, just in case you get wet during the morning session.
For river trips, a packed lunch and drink is required.
If you wear glasses or sun-glasses, we suggest you secure them. Neoprene spec-bands are available to buy at the centre if required.
