This full day assessment is relaxed and friendly, giving you ample time to show us how good a paddler you are!
The day will start with a short briefing, where you'll get to meet your assessor and fellow candidates - we'll explain what we are looking for and hopefully calm any nerves! Then it's onto the water... we often start in kayaks, some short ones, some long ones, then it's into canoes too. As part of the assessment, you'll need to plan a short trip as a group, which will then form the first part of the afternoon, and to finish the day we'll look at some rescue skills, before getting changed and de-briefing.

Times:
10am to 5pm
Dates:
Sunday Feburary 19th
Sunday May 13th
Sunday June 24th
Sunday September 16th
This course is held at Leam Boat Centre. For details of how to find us Click Here
This course is for you if: You feel your skills in both canoe and kayak meet the criteria for BCU two star, and you'd like to be proved right!
The syllabus is available from the Canoe England web site (see below link). Do have a look at both the training notes and assessors notes rather than just the syllabus, as they give much more detail of the skills required. If you are unsure, just give us a call and we can talk you through what we are looking for.

In warm weather: Basic sports wear e.g. shorts and t shirt. It’s sensible to bring a spare fleece top just in case it gets colder than expected. On hot days don’t forget sun screen, and a sun hat is a good idea.
If it’s cold/rainy: A fleece top and tracksuit type trousers (jeans and hoodies are not ideal, as they hold a lot of water). A warm hat is a good idea for cold days. Waterproofs are useful if you have them.
You must wear footwear - old trainers, sandals, or wet shoes. They must stay on in the water, so flip-flops and crocs are unsuitable.
A towel and a complete change of clothing (and shoes) are required for everyone!
Wetsuits and dry tops/trousers are not essential, but if you have them they are worth bringing, especially for the rescues at the end.
We provide buoyancy aids (compulsory), waterproof tops if needed, and all necessary paddling equipment. Showers and changing facilities are available and there is a take away snack bar.
On colder days, it may be sensible to bring an extra change of clothes, just in case you get wet during the morning session (although we don't intend you to!).
If you wear glasses or sun-glasses, we suggest you secure them. Neoprene spec-bands are available to buy at the centre if required.
